Dr. Mehmet Genç, the lecturer in History Department in College of Humanities and Social Sciences in İstanbul Şehir University, was chosen as "TÜBA Honorary Member".
Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) 56th General Assembly was held in Ankara on 29 December 2019 with the participation of Academy members. After the voting in the General Assembly, Dr. Mehmet Genç, the lecturer in History Department in College of Humanities and Social Sciences in İstanbul Şehir University, was chosen as "TÜBA Honorary Member".

In the explanation in TÜBA about Dr. Mehmet Genç; 

"Dr. Mehmet Genç's scientific studies in the field of Ottoman economic history have influenced the studies of national and international Ottoman economic history. Mehmet Genç's contributions can be grouped under three main headings. The first was his contributions including the idea that Ottoman history and the Ottoman economic history should be looked from a different perspective in terms of methodology.  The second group of contributions are those of the findings obtained during their studies in the Ottoman Archives, which are divided into two as technical contributions, and theoretical and general contributions to the operation of the system. The third consists of his thoughts and articles on the big questions that are closely related to the model he has established throughout his working life and which constitute the main problematics of Ottoman history and economy. In addition, Mehmet Genç made auxiliary explanations and solved many problems at the basic points related to Ottoman history in his studies on Ottoman industry, trade, internal customs regime, trades organization, muqataa system, textile trade, coffee and its place in the Ottoman economy, the capital of Istanbul, the conquest and economic results of Istanbul, the transformation of Ottoman industry."

Before, Prof. Şerif Mardin, the deceased academics of İstanbul Şehir University, had been chosen as Academy Honorary Member in the result of the voting in the TÜBA 51st General Assembly. Assoc. Dr. Abdurrahman Atçıl and Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Aysan, the lecturers in İstanbul Şehir University got the TÜBA-GEBİP Award for Outstanding Young Scientists.​
